SSIC Code Guide

Everything you need to know about selecting the right Singapore Standard Industrial Classification code for your business.

What is SSIC?

The Singapore Standard Industrial Classification (SSIC) is a coding system used to classify business activities in Singapore. It is based on the United Nations International Standard Industrial Classification (ISIC) Rev. 4.

Every business registered in Singapore must declare at least one SSIC code that describes its primary business activity. This code is used by ACRA and other government agencies for statistical and regulatory purposes. When registering a company in Singapore, selecting the right SSIC code is one of the first decisions you will make.

Primary SSIC

Required for all businesses. Describes your main business activity.

Secondary SSIC

Optional. Use if your business has significant secondary activities.

SSIC Code Structure

SSIC codes follow a hierarchical structure with 4 levels of classification. The code you select applies regardless of your business entity type — sole proprietorships, partnerships and companies all use the same SSIC system.

Always use a 5-digit class code for ACRA registration. These are the most specific codes available.

Tips for Selecting Your Code

Do:
  • Choose the code that best describes your main revenue source
  • Use 5-digit codes for registration
  • Add a secondary code if you have significant other activities
  • Review similar companies for guidance
Don't:
  • Choose a code just because it sounds prestigious
  • Select multiple primary codes (only one allowed)
  • Use section or division codes (must be 5 digits)
  • Ignore licensing requirements for regulated activities
